Successfully Switching Your Skincare

Sometimes it’s time for a change, even with our skincare. Our skin’s needs may change with the seasons, during different stages of life, or a frequently used product may be reformulated or discontinued. Since your skin has adjusted to your current regimen, you might wonder how to introduce new skincare products into your skincare routine. Here’s how to do it.

Choose Products According To Your Skin Type.

As always, everything starts with your skin type. Fortunately, knowing what skin type you are is simple and easy.

  • Normal skin is well-balanced, healthy skin. You have small pores and you don’t normally deal with a lot of major skin issues.
  • Dry skin is when your face often feels tight and parched. You’re more susceptible to flakiness and fine lines.
  • You have oily skin when you produce an excess amount of sebum which causes that shiny, oily appearance. It’s also one of the leading causes of your regular breakouts.
  • Combination skin is when you have dry or normal cheeks but an oily t-zone (forehead, nose and chin).

Try One New Product At A Time

If your skin is sensitive, introduce new products into your skincare routine one product at a time.

This is important because:

  • In case you have break out, you’d know exactly why and you can trouble-shoot easily. If you stop using the new product, does your skin calm down? Maybe you’re using too much product. Have you checked the active ingredients?
  • Adding several new products at a time might shock your skin and you don’t want that. You want our skin to get used to each product before introducing a new one.

Start Slow And Allow Your Skin To Adjust

Transitioning into a new skincare routine should also be done slowly. Start adding a new product every few days. If your skin is very sensitive, you may want to add in one new product per week.

How Do You Know If A Skincare Product Is For You?

It’s usually pretty easy to tell if a skincare product is for you or not. If you experience dryness and flakiness, or redness and irritation, then it’s time to stop using it.

Stick to products that make your skin happy. Your skin should feel soothed and hydrated after application.

Give New Products Time To Work

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Results are best noticed after 28 days of following your routine because this is how long it takes for new skin cells to form. Around four months after diligently following your routine, you should notice the biggest changes in your skin. A good skincare regimen is followed daily, so be consistent, they will show!

If you switch to a more hydrating skincare line for the fall & winter, I highly recommend DermResults Advanced. This powerful, advanced anti-aging skincare line, has been clinically tested to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, texture, and loss of firmness and elasticity. It also features an exclusive Hyaluronic Acid Complex to help build the skin’s moisture reserve…perfect for the cooler months ahead.
